question about vertigo?

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Apr 17, 2002 1:02 am

hi, I am a 22 year old college student
for the past two weeks i have been feeling dizzy like room is moving around me, nausuas, very queasy, shaky, weak, tired, and like confused as if i am in a brain fog. and no i am not pregnant and no i don't drink or do any sort of drugs, i am not on any type of medecine. I went to the doctor's last week and had a bunch of tests done. I don't know of the results yet. but i just got a quick question does vertigo occur by itself usually? and what causes it? i mean i know it is something of an imbalance in the ear, Is it associated from ear aches/infections i mean the last time i had any kind of ear problem was when i was a child. I understand that a diagnoses obviously can not be made on the internet am waiting to go back to the doctor's to hear back on results and getting a little impatient but is there anything from my symptoms that of what it could be? thanx sorry just getting impatient i am not able do to much but rest and lye down and have missed a few classes and getting really behind on work. thanx for your time and patience

I would suggest that you read all about vertigo on the Neurologychannel website. Vertigo can occur alone, and has many causes. Hopefully the doctor will be able to help with diagnosis and treatment, or seeing a neurologist may be helpful.

hi jill just read your question and your symptoms sound similar to mine I even get a tingly sensation in my lips when having a "spell". I am still waiting to see a doctor so I was wondering if you got your results back as you know i am quite scared by this all so the sooner I can find anything out about these sensations the better. thanks and i hope you are doing well.....

Hi Jill,
I certainly am not an expert of vertigo but have experienced it over the last year, my condition turned out to be ALS aka Lou Gehrig's Disease. My vertigo was not as severe as yours. Hope doctor you are going to see is an ENT, Ear - Nose - Throat doctor. One thing I have learned is not to self diagnosis nor to pay too much attention to those of us unqualified individuals, also once diagnosed and treatment doesn't seem to be working be sure to seek out a second opinion, not all doctors are created equal!!!
Good Luck and hope your problem is solvable - hang in there.
Gary.
