AccupunctureI visited a neurologist yesterday (day 3) and he told me that he had a patient who used accupuncture to treat his bell's facial paralysis and that his recovery was very fast. Has anyone used accupuncture or heard of anyone who has to speed up the recovery time? This is now day 4, and my mouth is pretty paralyzed, but I am still able to close my eye with concentrated effort. By now, I would think my symptoms should have pretty much leveled out or gotten as bad as they're going to get. The Dr. said usually it maxes out after 48 hours or so.... Any thoughts or feedback are appreciated.
Re: AccupunctureI have heard of similar experiences, it sounds like it is worth try with little or no downside, good luck, please report back on how it works if you decide to go forward
Re: AccupunctureI haven't heard about the accupuncture, but I had visited the bioenergotherapist and he helped me with recovering my facial nerve. The most important is to keep the same temperature on your face. Physiothepary is also essential and the SOLLUX light as well as face (very tender) massage. You also can not exceed all of those treatments - use only the things you was said by your neurologist - do not exceed anything. The nerve has to recover on his own in the future time.
Re: AccupunctureHi my name is Terri and I am 25 yrs old. I have had Bells Palsy for 16 yrs now. I have started to use an accupuncture and it has so far helped my eye some but my mouth has not made much improvement yet. I had to stop recently but I will probably start again soon. I think that it is a great idea. The person I see says he has cured all but one person only b/c he did not listen to what was suppose to be done. Any questions or concerns u can coctact me at [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed].

Re: AccupunctureHi,
I wanted to report back with my results, or apparent results, from acupuncture. After 2 weeks and approximately 8 treatments, including 6 acupuncture/electrical stimulation treatments, I was at around 75% recovery in my face. A week later and 3 more treatments I was at 90%. Hard to say if it was the acupuncture or not, but I do believe it helped. Especially the electrical stimulation part of the treatment. I am so very relieved to be recovering this well, as I had set myself up for a long and difficult recovery after all I had read. I hope the best for all who are suffering from Bell's Palsy. No one really could ever understand it unless they've had it. All the best! Sam
Re: AccupunctureHi , I too had it for 18 years and started having accupuncure. it only managed to asssit the closing of the eye, but not the mouth. iam now 20 years of old, and i find it very hard to socialise, becase iam in the constant fear that people would rejct. Throughout my life i have always tried not smile. strangers tend to always tell me to cheer up and smile. when ever iam on the tube and i make an eye contact, people always smile at me, and i just turn away. At home iam very cheerful but th emoment i leave the for work or even at work i find myself trapped.
i would give my life ti live a normal , if only i could do something abnout this , does anyone out there in my position.
Re: AccupunctureAs you get older it will get better in life. Some people believe they have to critize people. You know God is the only person who knows why people are like this. Just keep faith and pray about it. Just pray that it would get better. Believe in him and maybe continue your accupuncture. I have been having it for 15 yrs now. My eye is better with accupuncture and my mouth seems to maybe improving with this. Just keep positive about it and there is someone out there that does not care what is on the outside. Any questions just email me [moderator note: e-mail address has been removed]

Re: AccupunctureI contracted Bells Palsy on Oct. 7th. On Oct. 8th I saw my western medical doctor who prescribed the usual drugs (Predisone and anti-viral) and suggested I also see an accupunturist/herbalist. I started the accupuncture treatments on Oct. 9th. I had two treatments that first week, and one treatment every week since. It is now November 5th. I am 90% recovered and in fact I went back to looking basically normal on the third week. I also took herbal medicine as well as made some dietary and lifestyle changes during this last month - no alcohol, smoking, and ate healthy. It seems my recovery has been quite fast, others I have talked to said it took months to get back to normal, however they did not use accupuncture or herbal remedies. So, perhaps the eastern medicine did make the difference. I also took an hour out of each day to relax, meditate and focus on healing myself - I just let all of my stress go. I think this also helped a great deal. At the very least, the eastern medicine opened my mind to the possibilities of alternative treatments and I will probably keep up with the accupuncture on a regular basis of about 3 or 4 times a year for a "tune up"! Best wishes for your recovery.
Re: AccupunctureI was just diagnosed early this morning with BP. On Jan 18 late at night I felt my eye twitching a little and thought nothin of it, on Jan 19 around lunchtime I felt "funny" when I was trying to drink out of a straw. Jan 20 I noticed my eye was kind of dry and hard to blink. I can close it when I blink if I try to. My mouth does not droop on its own, but when I try to smile/yawn/drink it just doesn't move like it should. I also cannot flare that side nostril. I went to the ER and told me it was BP. I was given prednisone/acyclovir to take. I am exploring accupuncture, but it is really expensive. What herbal remedies has anyone taken?
