Dementia

My mother has been suffering from dementia for about 5 years. It's a puzzling variation of the disease in that my mother has biweekly periods where she "snaps out of it" and is almost back to normal,a radical change from her usual functioning. These periods almost always occur after she's had a sleepless night.

None of the many specialists we've consulted have familiarity with this pattern, and all express curiosity about it. Her mental functioning is apparently intact, but she cannot access it except after a sleepless night.

Do you have any information about this that might help me? If so, I would be extremely grateful if you would reply to this email.
