Essential Tremors and staggering

Post a new topicby ytsud on Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:00 pm

I have been diagnosised with Essential Tremors for nearly a year and lately when I go for a walk; at a fast pace, I have balance problems for about 15-20 minutes then I am ok. Has anyone heard of this?

I have found that my balance is not near as good as it used to be..AND..i have fallen 3 times in last year...but.whether that is caused by ET..or just because i am getting older I do not know. I am 55 now..it is anyone guess..haha

Hello, I also have veered into hall walls or just reeled off into a fall. My wife worries that I will someday fall on her glass coffee table in our living room.

I started noticing I was losing my balance little by little over the past decade. I did not connect it with ETs until I came here. 20 years ago I could walk an I-beam on construction sites. I cannot pass a sobriety test for DWI because I cant walk a straight line or stand with my eyes closed. I now am every rookie cop's dream; a staggering long haired old hippie with a bobble head with an attitude. haha So mostly I don't go out much.

Too Funny Deb ... that is the way the wife and I both are ... she now is blind in one eye and cant see outa da otter ... We are always bouncing off walls, falling down or walking into door edges anymore.

The Grandkids love it!! ROFL ... what can you do? Cry? or just laugh with the kids ... Haha

Twas a huge change in lifestyle for both of us ... thank goodness I get to have a drink every now and again to calm my ETs ... [wink]
Hugs,
Elk

I can tell you I have that problem a lot but mine lasts a lot longer. I have tremors in my legs and the more I walk (which is not at a fast pace) the worse my legs shake. Also with ET the more you do the worse your tremors get. I have to use a cane to keep my balance.

my legs have not been effected that badly as of yet..mostly I notice after a long day of working outside that I am just weak..BUT..again that could be my age too..haha.. I can still do most of what I want or need except for fine things as I said before..sewing..writing...pouring coffee..makeup..I do it, but accidents do happen..sighhhhh

I can tell you that even with my cane I still fall once in awhile and like you I just laugh about it because it doesn't do any good to cry. Last month my husband was fishing and I got up from my chair to go put my feet in the water and I lost my balance and fell right into the water. I thought it was so funny I couldn't stop laughing and my husband (Scott) ask me why I was laughing and I told him all I wanted to do was get my feet wet and he said then why are you soaked. HAHA!!!!!!
There that's my story for the month.
Hugs
