Recovering from GBS

Post a new topicby Booda on Fri Mar 28, 2008 1:23 pm

I was diagnosed with GBS in December of 2007. Symptoms came on very suddenly. I was not able to walk without help from at least two people. I was in the hospital for 8 days and received the immune gamma Gobulin injections for 5 days. I was able to walk using a walker upon my release from the hospital. Within 2 weeks I was able to get by using just a cane and shorly after that I shed the cane. I've returned to work full time . My balance is pretty good but on occasion I do notice a little instablility. I have never got rid of the numbness and tingling in my arms and legs. Lately It seems to be getting a little worse and has migrated up into my buttocks and scrotum area. I also have been getting numbness in my face particularly around my cheeks. This has got me a little concerned. I have made an appointment to see my neurologist again in a couple of weeks. I've been reading online about cidp and was wondering if I could be experiencing this. I basicly want to keep an eye on it and wonder if these symptoms may be common to the recovery of GBS
Any help would be appreciated

Booda,
Stand by, it has been my experience, the numbness and tingling seems to get worse after you get home and over the initial symptoms. I was diagnosed in Nov 07. I spent about 6 days in the hospital, and got home, still very weak, but NO side effects. Then about 2-3 weeks after I returned home, I seemed to get the tingling in my feet and fingers. Man it has gotten better and then worse, and then better again. I have talked to another person who had GBS and they tell me this is normal, and it will eventually go away. No time table, because it is different for everyone. I hope you start getting better, and "keep the faith". This is a very difficult to go through, but it can always be worse.

Take Care,
Frank Bullitt

Thanks for the reply Frank. I feel really fortunate because I have not had some of the severe symptoms others have had. It did not get to the point of having to be put on a respirator and
I just want to nip it in the bud before anything major could occur. It is nice (for my sake not yours) that someone else is experiencing the same symptoms as I have.

Thanks again

I was diagnosed with GBS March of '08. I was not hospitalized, but the tingling is sometimes almost debilitating. It varies in severity, and sometimes I'm almost back to normal.

Last week it was not bad, almost normal. I began to hope. But right now I feel very weak in my legs. The tingling is from my feet to my arms, and the skin on my back is hyper-sensitive.

I thought I was getting over it last week, but it looks like it'll take a while. I'm just glad I wasn't as bad as others. My heart goes out to you.
